Connecting God, Nature and Life Through a Campaign for Camp!
Camp Wyoming is at an
exciting place in its history. Over 47 years ago the camp opened the
front gate to all who needed rest, reflection, and reconnection. The
priority then is the same today: to provide a safe place where we can
meet with nature and each other, and we can expand our relationship with
Jesus Christ.
What will be the future of Camp Wyoming?
The future holds new ways of experiencing
the everlasting grace of God. This will be accomplished through
construction, renovation, and expansion at Camp Wyoming through a
Campaign goal of $800,000. We will run the Campaign this Spring and
continue until the Fall season.
How will
these goals be accomplished?
First, through construction. The largest
need of Camp Wyoming is growing our facilities through a High Ropes
Course and Climbing Tower, a Health Center, a rustic camp Bath House,
and new office facility.
In addition, renovation
of current facilities and property will provide a safe and comfortable
environment for both summer programming and year-round retreats.
Projects include repairs to the Owl’s Nest Retreat Center, the Deer
Center, the swimming pool, the Retreat Lodges, and the Labyrinth.
The third area of the
campaign focuses on expansion of the Camp’s Endowment and resources
available to campers and guests. By building the Endowment Fund, the
future becomes more secure for Camp Wyoming. Items include a maintenance
truck, multi-purpose minivan, tools and equipment. Bridge loans and
other contingencies have also been planned for.
Finally, in order for
the campaign to be successful, a consultant, Timothy Coffey, from Coffey
and Associates, Inc. worked closely with the Camp Wyoming Board of
Directors and Campaign Team to insure a clear, realistic and well
communicated campaign.
Why do we need a Capital Campaign?
Over the decades so many children, teens
and adults have experienced the grace and love of God at Camp Wyoming.
This capital campaign is about building the future of Camp Wyoming. As
the Board of Directors, we are honored to participate in this process of
prayer, faithfulness, commitment and action. We humbly ask for your
prayerful consideration and faithful giving. |

Campaign Update ~ February 2007 ~
We continue to visit with churches,
groups, corporations and individuals to seek financial support towards
our goal of $800,000. To date, we have received pledges in the
amount of $325,000. Many churches within the Presbytery of East
Iowa and John Knox Presbytery are finalizing their plans to pledge
support over the next three years. We hope these pledges will help
us meet the goal.
We are excited about how the Campaign is
going and learning about the long-term connection with specific families
and churches. It is obvious that people are interested in
investing in the ministry and future of Camp Wyoming. We would
also like to take the opportunity to thank every volunteer who has
helped in developing the Campaign plan and visiting with people about
the Campaign. We appreciate your time, effort and energy. We
are blessed to have you as part of our Camp family.
In an effort to update
everyone on the Campaign plan, we have completed the following purchases
and projects to date:
| Replacement of
carpet in the Owl's Nest |
| New Maintenance
Truck and Plow |
| New bedspreads and
curtains in the Owl's Nest |
| New Multipurpose
Minivan |
| Construction of
platform tents for housing summer staff |
| Renovation of
Rogers Lodge (beds, furnishings & carpet) |
| New showers in
Hickory & Whippoorwill Lodge |
This Spring, we plan to replace the
mattresses in the Owl's Nest, replace the bathroom stalls in Hickory
Lodge, Whippoorwill Lodge, and Deer Center, and then renovate our
Swimming Pool. As you can tell, we have worked to improve the
experience for all summer camp and retreat group participants. |
