Volunteer Spotlight - Michelle Colton
A familiar face throughout the years at Camp Wyoming is that of Michelle
Colton. Michelle grew up in Marion, Iowa the daughter of Sharon Colton
and the late Steve Colton. She has one brother, Dennis and one sister,
Krisiti. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, watching
movies and going to concerts. Michelle likes playing music (percussion,
piano, guitar) singing, reading, jogging and overall being outdoors. The
last movie she saw was Monster’s Inc. and the last book she read was The
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night. Michelle’s favorite meal is
lasagna.
Being members of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, Michelle and
her family were quickly introduced to Camp Wyoming. She remembers
attending You & Me camp with her father, and she recalls attending
summer camp each year there after. Michelle grew up at Camp Wyoming and
served as a staff member in 2002 & 2003.
Michelle graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 2002. She then attended
the University of Iowa focusing on Music Education/Percussion
Performance. Michelle graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music degree.
Michelle made the move to Canada where she is a 1st year Master’s
student at University of Toronto for Percussion Performance. Michelle
enjoys her position as a steel drum and percussion teaching assistant
while still finding time to perform two other jobs, one as an usher at
the music hall, and the other working in the music library.
Michelle admits she likes to “explore” the music library while she’s
supposed to be putting books back on shelves.
Michelle’s hope for the future of Camp Wyoming is that it continues to
be a memorable place. She states, “I know I will never forget the
feeling that being at camp gives me. There is nothing quite like it.”
Thank you Michelle for continued volunteerism to Camp Wyoming!
