Rev. Mike Andrew - Board Member
Rev. Mike Andrew
serves on the Camp Board and its Marketing Committee. He is the pastor
for Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Atkins, Iowa. Mike grew up
near Spokane, Washington where he later went to college at Eastern
Washington University. He earned a degree in Business Finance. After
college, he worked as an Operations Manager in the television industry,
studying the demographic responses to pilot television shows and
commercials. He later moved to the Yellowstone National Park area in
Montana where he helped manage a local hotel. In West Yellowstone he
became active in the community church where he eventually served as a
volunteer leader for Junior High youth. He found church work to be
fulfilling and absorbed much practical experience during his time
there. Mike discovered his sense of call during his time in Montana,
and credits the support of his mentors, Revs. Tom and Rev. Tammy Letts.
Both Tom and Tammy were instrumental in teaching the importance of camp
ministry for today’s youth. Mike
later went on to graduate from the University of Dubuque Theological
Seminary, and actually met his wife Rev. Noelle Andrew (who
serves as a pediatric chaplain at the University of Iowa Hospitals), when
he spilled a pot of coffee at her feet on his first day of seminary
classes. Mike enjoys reading, fly fishing, hiking, and backpacking. He
has also maintained a lifelong fascination with meteorology. His
favorite food is ice cream and his favorite movie is “A River Runs
Through It.” Mike has a younger sister, Sheri, who works in marketing
for a computer chip manufacturer in San Jose, California. His mother
was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and his father was a Research
Scientist. Both are retired.
Mike loves how Camp offers
“those special moments where youth can have an epiphany and open their
spiritual eyes to the new things they have learned. It’s amazing how
that specific experience impacts a child’s life and stays with them
forever.” He is also inspired by the commitment of the counselors who
work with the campers. “The counselors make the camp what it is. I am
very impressed with the thought that goes into their Christ Walk
character and how their role embodies and encapsulates their beliefs.”
