Volunteer ~ Terry Miller
When asked
what he likes to do for fun, Terry Miller answers, “work”. Whether he’s
doing remodeling projects, or landscaping his yard, Terry likes to keep
busy 24/7. Terry joined the working world right after graduation and
has worked in asphalt construction at Shamrock Construction in Iowa City
for 35 years.
Terry grew
up on a farm at the edge of Newhall with 5 brothers and sisters. Terry
recalls there were always people around their home as it was the “kids
spot” for pretty much everyone. Terry graduated from Benton Community
Schools in 1971.
Terry and
his wife Rhonda Armstrong live in rural Atkins and have 10 children
ranging in age from 6 to 30. Add eight grandchildren into the picture
and well, that’s a lot of family. Terry’s greatest joy is watching his
children and grandchildren grow. Terry and Rhonda have purchased a
motor home this past year and are looking forward to a few camping and
fishing getaways. Terry’s ideal meal is a tasty plate of liver and
onions or a nice serving of anything containing seafood.
Terry has a
knack for landscaping as he’s created several water features around his
home. Turning an old cable TV dish into a lily pond is just one of his
many masterpieces. Flipping through different garden books and
magazines keeps Terry’s wheels in motion. Through the years, Terry
has been volunteering with Camp Wyoming in many facets. Varying from
projects of concrete work at the Maintenance Garage, to floor tile work
at the Deer Center and Hickory Lodge, to chaperoning at the Confirmation
Retreat, Terry’s generosity has been greatly appreciated. Terry doesn’t
enjoy the limelight when given credit for the volunteer projects. He’s
quick to add that there’s a great group of guys that help out. Terry’s
sons Ryan, Robbie and Aaron, as well as Terry’s brother Craig, and
friend Dave Duball have helped complete projects.
Thank you
Terry for giving of your time, your wonderful attitude, and your
fountain of knowledge!
