Rev. Wendy Boden-Nelson
serves as the Volunteer Director for the Summer Games camp program at
Camp Wyoming. Wendy is the Temporary Supply for First Presbyterian
Church in Baraboo, Wisconsin. She has been the Associate Pastor for
this Church for 14 years and agreed to serve as Temporary Supply when
Rev. David Gilmore retired last year after 33 years of service.
Wendy was born in Torrance, California. She grew up in California and
Connecticut. Wendy graduated from the University of Connecticut with a
degree in History. During the summer after she graduated, she worked
part-time in two separate jobs, as an Au pair and as the Director of
Blood Services for the American Red Cross. She later became the Fiscal
Services Director for the American Red Cross.
Wendy then attended and graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in
Pasadena, California. She went to Fuller because it is the largest
interdenominational seminary in the world and offers a diverse campus.
One of her favorite pastors also suggested the school. Wendy thought
Fuller provided a good mix of subjects which gave her a solid
foundation. After graduating from Fuller, she worked as a Youth
Director for Covenant Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. Wendy found
this role as a helpful experience in developing her ministry.
Wendy took her first call as the Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian
Church in Burlington, Iowa. She found it took a while for her to adjust
to the change in culture as she moved from a huge metropolis to a small
city in the Midwest. Wendy says she still receives their newsletter and
is impressed with what they’re doing.
Wendy met her husband, Blair, while they were attending Fuller
Seminary. Blair moved from his native town of Vancouver, Canada to
Madison, Wisconsin where he and Wendy got married. They have two
children, Max (12) and Anna (9). Both kids play the piano, soccer, and
dance. Max enjoys playing the trumpet while Anna likes to sew. Wendy’s
favorite food is steak and sautéed mushrooms. Her favorite movie is
“The Wind and the Lion” starring Sean Connery and Candace Bergen.
Wendy has been involved with the Summer Games program at Camp Wyoming
since 1994. She has been very proud and excited about the development
of the program and how campers have blossomed during their time at
Camp. Wendy has been very appreciative of the Camp Kitchen’s
hospitality in working with her husband and son’s dietary restriction.
Both Blair and Max suffer from Celiac disease which means they are
unable to eat wheat, oats, barley, and rye. Wendy has been real
thankful to how the kitchen has taken care of her family. Wendy is
“excited about the Camp Wyoming ministry, its dedication, and its effort
to bring kids to know Jesus Christ so they can share God’s love to those
they meet out in the World.”
We
are blessed to have the vibrant and committed efforts of Rev. Wendy
Boden-Nelson. We encourage many of you to register for the Summer Games
program and learn about Jesus Christ through your time with Wendy.
